Associate Wine Maker

Summary:

We are currently looking for a full time employee to join our staff primarily as an assistant to our winemaker that would include responsibilities in the vineyard and with our retail business at the winery. Our winery is located 40 minutes north of the Twin Cities area in Chisago City, Minnesota.

Assistant to the Wine Maker - approximately 50% time

-All aspects of wine making including harvesting the grapes, crushing and pressing, and conducting fermentations.
-Wine making tasks including racking, pumping, filtering and blending of wines including managing hoses and wine making equipment
-Maintaining and operating cellar operations including sanitation
-Assisting in the evaluation and analysis of wines
-Aiding in the bottling of wines
-Other duties as they relate to the production of our wines

Vineyard Management – approximately 40% time

Providing supportive labor in the vineyard, including:
-Dormant pruning of grapevines
-Summer maintenance including weeding, trellising
-Monitoring grapevine diseases and pests including related record keeping
-Providing leadership in helping to manage our harvest work and crew

Retail and Tasting Room - approximately 10% time

-Welcoming our customers to the winery
-Pouring wine samples in our tasting room, providing education on our wines, wine making and vineyard practices to our customers
-Helping to set up and work winery events including wedding events
-Assisting in duties related to our retail operation including setting up the tasting room and visitor center for business operation
-Selling wine and other items in our store
-Proficient with a computer and ability to operate our POS system

Important considerations for the position include:

-Ability to follow directions and learn on the job
-Be physically capable of doing the work necessary
-Complete tasks timely and efficiently
-Work well with others and have the ability to work independently
-Work in various weather conditions
-Comfortable with talking and connecting to our customers
-Cellar or vineyard experience would be helpful but not necessary
-Being a part of our winery family with a positive attitude

Additional factors:

-Required schedule 40 hours per week, Tuesday through Saturday
-Able to work occasionally on Sundays and a rare evening during harvest or for special events

Event Planner

Summary

Winehaven is one of Minnesota’s premier event venues, hosting weddings, corporate events and winery celebrations year-round. Our events are an integral part of the overall winery operation and an extension of our brand. We work one-on-one with each of our clients to craft an event that – through thoughtful choices and unforgettable aesthetics – speaks to their distinct creative vision. We customize our planning services to fit the needs of our diverse clientele, and offer services ranging from event coordination to Full Service Event Planning and Design. We are looking for a talented and experienced Event Planner to add to our team! This person will be responsible for working directly with clients, communicating with vendors, and running events throughout the year. This person needs to be a “go getter” with a creative eye, a passion for logistics, and a love for the hospitality industry. The position includes a mix of weekday and weekend work.

Job Details:

- Full time
- Standard office hours are expected on Saturdays and Sundays due to high volume of new client inquiries, tours and events on weekends. Weekday hours vary due to evening client meetings and workflow.
- Pay based on experience

Job Duties:

- Plan and execute weddings and events at a Winehaven’s Event Center in Chisago City, Minnesota
- Event planning procedures must adhere to Winehaven’s standards and ensure consistency across our offerings
- Sell wedding and events to clients, while maintaining pricing integrity set by Winehaven Management
- Create timelines and diagrams for events
- Budget Management and development for events
- Communicate with vendors to ensure all Winehaven weddings and events follow rules of venue
- Manage vendors throughout planning process and day-of events
- Ensure client satisfaction
- Following events, planner will ensure that all vendors are paid and all invoices for clients have a zero balance
- Support Winehaven’s Tasting Room as necessary

Candidate Requirements:

- Be extremely organized, reliable, and prompt
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to sell and describe our event services
- Able to prioritize tasks with overlapping deadlines
- Friendly, personable, and works well in a team
- Creative problem solving skills and works well under pressure
- Able to work with cross functional vendor teams and manage these teams during events
- Have a car with a safe driving record
- Proficiency with Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and computer savvy
- Extremely capable at multi-tasking

- Able to successfully relate to a wide variety of personality types
- Able to remain calm and think clearly throughout periods of stress
- Able to be constantly on their feet for up to 10 hours at a time

Tasting Room Associate

Summary

Our tasting room is an integral part of the overall winery operation and an extension of our brand. In this part-time position, you will be active in both tasting room and consumer direct sales as well as assisting with event administration. The position includes a mix of weekday and weekend work.


Essential Functions

- Tasting Room Sales
- Provide guests with a positive and memorable experience
- Work a minimum of six weekends every two months
- Actively sell both wine and non-wine merchandise
- Process sales accurately and efficiently in the POS system
- Maintain the cleanliness of tasting room sales area, restroom and surrounding landscape.
- Develop point-of-sales displays focusing on sales of specific products.
- Schedule group and tour visits to the winery.

Consumer Direct Sales

- Process orders accurately and efficiently
- Package and ship orders according to established guidelines
- Add new customer/prospects to database
- Establishment and maintenance of consumer wine club
- Conduct off-site tastings for consumers and trade

Other

-Inventory management
-Assist event preparation and execution
